Happy International Women's Day!

It is said that everyday in our life should be like a holiday. We still need though the symbolic milestones to recognize this even though there are not big celebrations. Sometimes only the thought and a gesture of it is enough.

That is why I think that we can stop for a moment in our busy life and wish to all the women in our life Happy Women's Day!

Heroes Remembered.

The 90th anniversary of the Remembrance Day was celebrated last week in Canada and other western countries.

Watch this video on the celebrations that took place in Kitchener-Waterloo Region.

I found interesting this year Regis Philbin's symbolic gesture to wear Canadian poppy during his morning show Regis and Kelly. He also suggested that the other western countries should adopt the Canadian custom to wear poppies prior and during Remembrance Day celebration.

Cyber perfect fireworks.

Computers are everywhere, even in the fireworks business. You need them to transform the traditional fireworks into a perfect art. I'm eager to see tomorrow (at University of Waterloo's Columbia Lake Fields) a cyber perfect fireworks demonstration done by one of the best, Dave Whysall.

Canada prepares for its 141 anniversary.

All of Canada is ready for the big party. Starting with the Capital, to big cities, regions and every community the Canadian national feeling will proudly live tomorrow. While any celebration is a good reason to have fun it is also the time to look at the achievements and challenges to overcome for a brighter future.

Waterloo's science enthusiasts of all ages and from all walks of life decided to celebrate Waterloo's 150th Birthday at the city's science star, Perimeter Institute (PI). The mixture of whys, hows, wows, becauses and chatting transformed PI's impressive glass atrium into a reverberating temple of science. Assumptions…

Post inspired by the 200 years anniversary of the abolition of slave trade.

Assumptions could be a source of strength but also of weakness. As everything in life the harder you get it the more valuable it is. In consequence the assumptions that require some effort of imagination (like the Martians theory or the Think Different scenarios) are the most rewarding.

On the other hand no effort assumptions are most often the sources of weakness. For instance all discriminations (race, sex, religion, nationality, etc.) are based on “evident” assumptions that since the other one is different it means that he/she is inferior. They are so dangerous that sometimes could cause wars. The sad part is that some people never learn.

I have composed below a chain of assumptions for those that need convincing that assumptions have to be checked before jumping into conclusions:

To all the women in our life.

Happy Women's Day! On March the 8th, the world celebrates the moment when it started to double. To double its potential, its ideas, its achievements.

Thinking different has always been difficult. It took some time for the society to realize that women have equal rights (in society, at work or at home) with men. If not for this important achievement (that some are taking it for granted) it is worth celebrating this day for what the women in our life bring special.
